Barrett Mooney - CSI Fellow

The field of sustainable and renewable energy has always been where CSI Fellow Barrett Mooney's heart truly lies. Barrett believes natural systems can teach us how to live and co-exist within our environment, using resources effectively, and replenishing what we take. Demand for reliable energy is on the rise, but what toll are fossil fuels taking on our living space. An answer to both problems lies in renewable energy technology.

Barrett has focused his education since freshman year of high school to better understand the physics of the natural environment. It has been his goal while in college at the University of Florida to gain an understanding of new energy technology, and their effect on the environment. Barrett has pursued the course of Nuclear Engineering in order to more comprehensively understand power generation and thermal systems. During an internship with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission he was able to see how energy utilities operate as well as how they are regulated.

Mooney's interest in the renewable energy fields covers a broad spectrum. His initial interest stems from technology development, but he is also interested in policy, regulation, and implementation of energy systems. Renewable energy is an issue for the global community, and many opportunities exist to learn from other countries and exchange ideas. Barrett is interested in this effort as well. To increase renewable energy to be the majority of all energy used is going to take a worldwide effort.

Reducing an ecological footprint takes time, but Barrett has always known renewable energy is the first step in the right direction.
