Brendan
grew up in Los Angeles where his parents would often take him out into
nature. As an avid fisherman, he spent much of the free time during his
younger years fishing Southern California's
coastal kelp forests, reefs, and islands. In 1998 he acquired his Eagle
Scout from Boy Scout troop 507. While in college at UC Santa Cruz, he
studied resource economics, field methods, conservation biology,
environmental policy, and fisheries and natural resource management. He
graduated from UCSC in the summer of 2003 with a degree in Environmental
Studies. He has participated in a number of research projects, including the
National Marine Fisheries Services Groundfish Ecology Team and Island
Conservation and Ecology Group. His particular areas of both personal and
vocational interest are fisheries management and ocean conservation. In
2001, he successfully started a kayak fishing guide service out of Santa
Cruz. Right now he is preparing to go back to technical school to receive a
certificate in GIS before continuing on to grad school. In the meantime, he
is working with a various local non-profits, including Conservation Science
Institute, on a number of different environmentally related research
projects.
