Dr.
Russell J. Bellmer is
presently a Marine Ecological
Consultant with RJB Ecological Consultants in Davis, CA. In addition,
Bellmer is teaching part-time oceanography at Diablo Valley College and is
under contract to NOAA Fisheries as well as being the current President of
the American Fisheries Society California-Nevada Chapter.
Bellmer's past
positions include: project leader (fisheries biologist) for
the Stockton U.S. Fish and Wildlife Office. This fisheries resource office
has four programs; native fish monitoring, anadromous fish habitat
restoration, non-native invasive species, and fish population research.
Restoration manager (marine biologist) for the Damage
Assessment and Restoration Program and Restoration Research program manger
with NOAA Fisheries in the NOAA Restoration Center in Silver Spring, MD. Senior scientist (marine biologist) in both the Habitat Conservation and
Endangered Species programs, and has been involved nationwide in numerous
fish and coastal resource activities, including applied ecological research,
fisheries habitat restoration project implementation, marine non-native
invasive species issues, and Natural Resource Damage Assessment case
activities.
Bellmer's
experience also includes working as a marine ecologist at the Washington
Level Review Center, New England Division, and Los Angeles District with the
Corps of Engineers. He has taught biology, ecology, and marine science at
the college and university level part-time and has published in the area of
applied ecology.
Bellmer's
background includes being a California
native from the San Francisco Bay area, SCUBA diving instructor, and
underwater photographer. His research interests include applied marine and
aquatic restoration ecology, anthropogenic effects on population community
dynamics, and pollution impacts on marine benthic communities. Bellmer's
education includes a Ph.D. in Marine Ecology from Clark University in
Worcester, MA; a Master of Science in Environmental Science at California
State University Dominguez Hills; and a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Biological Sciences at the University of California Irvine.
